It was probably the most unusual race track in the world — a rock hard claypan near Kalgoorlie in the Eastern Links to InformationGoldfields of Western Australia. The first race was conducted in 1914 and regular racing of cars, motorcycles and even bicycles continued right through to the onset of World War II. Australian endurance records were also set on the claypan. The legend of Lake Perkolilli will be revived in October 2014 with historic motor cars and motorcycles coming to celebrate the centenary. |
